On March 11th, the people of the European Union gathered to honour the memory of those lost to terrorism and to support those whose lives were forever changed. This day reminds us of the pain that knows no borders, but also of the strength that arises from solidarity, resilience, and unity.
As Jeanne Barseghian, Mayor of Strasbourg, emphasized, cooperation at all levels of government is crucial. Every level of authority plays a decisive role, and it is vital to work together with different authorities at local, national, and European levels. This is why they welcomed the European Network on Victims’ Rights a few years ago, recognizing its importance in supporting those affected by terrorism.
Terrorism seeks to divide us, but in the face of violence, unity is our most powerful weapon. We must act to prevent radicalization, especially among young people, and ensure a society where hatred cannot thrive. Through education and awareness, we can prevent extremism.
Justice is our response to terror. Terrorists will never do what we do: uphold the rule of law, respect victims, and defend our values. This is our commitment to freedom, peace, and dignity.
Never again is not just a slogan—it’s a promise to remember, to support, and to act.
We remember. We prevent. We stand united.
